...into the peripheral, reflecting is a sculptural installation composed of glazed ceramic forms atop an industrial steel beam, suspended over a clay-covered floor. Over time, the moist clay slowly dries, shrinking and cracking into a fragmented, desert-like surface. This gradual transformation is integral to the work, creating a dynamic interplay between stability and impermanence, material weight and environmental change. The ceramic forms evoke organic remnants or speculative life forms, caught in a delicate act of balance.
Leaning on ideas of new materialism, the piece challenges anthropocentric frameworks, foregrounding material agency and the vitality of non-human processes. The drying clay is not merely a passive base but an active participant—its evolving texture mirroring ecological shifts and geological time. By engaging with alternative ecologies and life beyond the human scale, ...into the peripheral, reflecting proposes a quiet yet potent meditation on transformation, interdependence, and the porous boundary between matter and meaning.
